Bio
Jennifer Lewis:
Animals have always been a passion of mine and that was evident from a very early age. I spent my childhood rescuing local wildlife, anything from bees drowning in pools to snakes frightening the neighbors. I was able to turn this dedication into a career when I was trained in birds at The Ruth Melichar Bird Center in Idaho. Also, while in Idaho, I worked at Zoo Boise from 1996 to 1999 where my knowledge was expanded to world wildlife and native wildlife rehabilitation. This includes the importance of proper nutrition and animal enrichment for all animals, no matter how long they are in captivity.
I have since moved back to my hometown of Auburn, Maine where I have
acquired my Maine State Rehabbing license in 2002. I have recently taken on
insectivorous bats as my main focus of rehab and am specializing in them. I
went to Bat World Texas in 2005 to get further training with them and am now
the new director of a Bat World in Maine, Bat World Dirigo.
Being able to rehab and release animals is an indescribable joy and I look forward to many more years caring for the local wildlife in the North East.
